The Apple iSlate isn’t here. The CrunchPad (aka JooJoo) failed us with a $500 price tag, but the Freescale Smartbook, a 7 inch internet tablet priced only at $199, shines some light on the tablet market. To be debuted at CES 2010, specs include a 1Ghz processor, 512MB of DDR2 memory, 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, optional 3G, USB 2.0, 3MP camera, 4GB to 64GB internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot). Freescale hopes the tablet will inspire a market of sub $200 tablets, but my guess is OEMs want profit more than popularity of their products, huh?

The operating system here is a browser-based (like Chrome OS) Debian Linux build – so it should be possible to install Linux applications on the tablet as well.
