Microsoft to stop selling Word on Jan 11

If you don’t remember, Microsoft’s appeal was denied in the case against them filed by i4i, and now Microsoft has to stop selling Microsoft Office Word on January 11. The patent that was violated (manipulating a document’s content and architecture separately) did not seem to be used in OpenOffice, and previous or current Microsoft Word copies, owners of which can breathe easy. Microsoft does have a workaround – a version of Office 2007 and Word 2007 that doesn’t violate the patent. According to Microsoft, Word 2010 doesn’t have technology that violates the patent. To top all of it off, their planning an appeal to the Supreme Court if all else fails.
